Our assessment

The short version

A lighter cordless cleaner with long runtime, shallow-platform support and automatic surface parking. It lacks camera-based intelligence, yet independent testing found consistently strong daily results.

Skip it if: You want built-in surface skimming or camera-led debris detection.

Evidence note: Pool Robot Advisor has not physically tested this model. This assessment synthesizes current manufacturer documentation, independent hands-on reporting and safety records linked below.

Full review

How it performs and what ownership is like

01

Cleaning performance

Four bottom roller brushes and 6,800 GPH of published flow cover floors, walls, the waterline and supported shallow platforms. WIRED found it consistently effective as a daily cleaner. It does not skim the surface, so falling leaves still need a skimmer or a separate pass after they sink.

02

Navigation and coverage

Thirteen sensors, including two ultrasonic sensors, guide four cleaning modes. The system is simpler than Beatbot's camera-led flagship, but shallow-platform support down to eight inches is a meaningful distinction for pools with a broad tanning ledge that meets the minimum platform size.

03

Filtration and debris

The included 5.2-liter basket is rated at 150 microns and provides useful capacity for leaves and general debris. Beatbot advertises a separate 3-micron accessory; buyers should not assume that ultra-fine element is included or currently available with the base robot.

04

Handling and ownership

At 19.6 pounds, the Sora 30 is materially easier to handle than the flagship. Automatic surface parking helps retrieval, floor mode can run for five hours and charging takes about 4.5 hours. The main maintenance complaint in independent testing is the effort needed to rinse debris from basket crevices.

05

Evidence and confidence

A detailed current manufacturer specification table and a dedicated WIRED hands-on review support the Strong label. Manufacturer-hosted star ratings are not used as our score and the five-hour figure is a maximum floor-mode claim, not a universal cycle time.

What stands out

Strengths and limitations

Reasons to consider it

  • Strong independent cleaning results

  • Minimal camera-style intelligence

Pre-order check

Confirm these details before you buy

  1. Measure a shallow shelf before buying; support starts at 8 inches deep and the platform must be at least 3.3 × 3.3 ft.
  2. Confirm whether you need the optional 3-micron filter and whether it is available.
  3. Compare floor-only runtime with the combined mode you will actually use.
  4. Confirm your phone, Wi-Fi setup and two-year warranty region before ordering.
